An effective mobile marketing strategy takes more than just making your website mobile friendly.
How Do Consumers Use Their Smart Phones?
I use an advanced performance energy drink called Cytomax. I ran out of Cytomax last week. So, I wanted to get some more on Saturday while I finished all my other errands. I have purchased the drink before from Target, but when I went on Saturday, they didn't have it anymore.
Naturally, I opened up the browser on my smart phone and searched for Cytomax. I found their website, then was completely disappointed when there was zero information about "where to buy". What! Who doesn't have a "where to buy" on their website!
Finally, I called my wife at her office and she looked up where to buy Cytomax from her laptop. I went to the store and bought Cytomax. However, if I didn't like Cytomax so much, I would have bought something else.
My point here is that companies need to look at their mobile marketing strategy. What do people use their smart phones for? Yes, Facebook, Twitter, social this, blah blah. But, people also use their smart phones to search for your business! People want to know when you're open, what you sell, where to buy it, et cetera!
Consumers are not using smart phones to browse the web in the traditional sense. They are not going to read a 5 page article on their iPhone. (Well, maybe a few people will). But, let's focus on the 99%. How are your customers using smart phones? Can they find your business? Is your mobile website performing like it should?
Remember, your website IS your business! Your website needs to market and sell for you on desktop computers as well as smart phones.
Mobile Internet Users Verses Desktop Internet Users
I think in five years there will be more mobile internet users than desktop internet users. Think about that for a second! Think about how important your mobile marketing strategy is going to be!
At Bullsprig, we are currently producing and testing different mobile marketing strategies for our clients. In addition, our partners at Adobe are currently working on mobile website marketing options for our content management system. Mobile is here. Now. Today.
No business owner or marketing department can ignore mobile any longer. You must start thinking about an effective mobile marketing strategy today, not a year from now.
